About Our Programs
Q: What ages do you teach?
A: We currently teach riders ages 3–11. We’ll be expanding to additional age groups soon.
Q: Does my rider need their own bike?
A: Yes. For beginner classes, balance bikes or regular bicycles are required (no training wheels). Helmets are required for all riders. If your rider has a pedal bike, we can remove the pedals on Day 1 if they are still working on balance. If you don’t have a bike yet, let us know, we can recommend options.

- Ride Safe (Safety) - For riders who can balance and pedal but want to learn safety rules and basic traffic awareness.

Safety & Liability

Q: What steps do you take to ensure safety?
A: All classes are led by trained instructors in controlled environments. We emphasize proper sizing, helmet checks, safe skill progression, and positive coaching. Parents/guardians must stay for younger riders. Helmets are required; additional gear is optional.
Q: Do you carry insurance?
A: Yes, CrankCourage is insured. All participants must sign a liability waiver before attending class which is presented at Registration.
Q: Can my child participate if they have medical or developmental considerations?
A: Absolutely. Please let us know ahead of time so we can support your rider appropriately.
Other Common Questions
Q: Do parent/guardians need to stay during class?
A:
- Ages 3–6 / Learn to Ride: Yes, you stay and support your rider.
- Safety & Intermediate: You’re welcome to stay or drop off. We are not responsible for riders before or after scheduled class times.
Q: Can siblings attend or watch?
A: Yes! We have multiple rider discounts at registration. If the sibling is spectating, then we ask the parent to be responsible for ensuring they stay off of the tracks to ensure the safety of everyone, and not cause a distraction or disruption for other riders.
Q: What if my rider doesn’t progress as quickly as others?
A: Every rider learns at their own pace. Our instructors celebrate small wins, reinforce skills, and keep things fun. We’ll never rush or pressure a child.
Q: What if my rider still does not have independence after taking Learn to Ride (Beginner)?
A: Progress varies! Many riders do achieve independence in one course, but not all. We encourage continued practice at home. Riders who need more time may benefit from a private lesson, or re-enrolling in Learn to Ride in order to continue to build the necessary skills in becoming a confident rider. For riders ready to take it to the next level, our Ride Safe and Intermediate programs would be the next step in bike and safety skills.
Q: What are the behavior expectations during class?
A: At CrankCourage, we aim to create a positive, encouraging, and safe environment where every rider can learn and have fun. To help us do that, we ask riders to follow a few simple expectations:
Rider Expectations
- Listen to your coach’s instructions to keep yourself and others safe.
- Stay with the group unless a coach gives permission otherwise.
- Use kind and respectful words with coaches and fellow riders.
- Keep hands on your bike and ride safely, no rough play, pushing, or unsafe riding.
- Try your best, even if something feels new or a little scary. We celebrate effort over perfection!
If a rider is nervous
- We take our time, offer encouragement, and adjust activities to help them feel confident. No rider is ever rushed.
If a rider is disruptive or unsafe
Our coaches will:
- Gently remind them of expectations,
- Provide redirection or an appropriate break, and
- Contact the parent/guardian if the behavior continues or becomes unsafe.
Safety is our top priority, and sometimes a quick parent callback or reassurance is all a rider needs.
If a rider consistently struggles with behavior
- We’ll speak with the parent/guardian to find the best solution, which may include:
- Modified activities,
- Additional support from a parent during class, or
- Rescheduling for a time when the rider is more ready.
